Our Technology

WE LOVE OUR TECHNOLOGY…

Without it, we could not do what we do!

Advanced Dentistry requires Advanced Tools…

The more complex a patient’s case may be, the more the treating dentist needs to use state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment technologies to measure, validate, and insure the best possible outcome.

WHAT WE USE – FALLS INTO TWO DISTINCT CATEGORIES:

  • Technologies that are common in many modern progressive dental offices.
  • Technologies that are not common in most offices – because they are specialized for the diagnosis and treatment
of bite problems and head and neck pain and dysfunction.

Here’s an overview of the technologies we currently use in the care of our patients.

THE “COMMON” TECHNOLOGIES that we use:

  • Digital X-Rays
  • Digital Macro Photography
  • Soft Tissue Lasers

THE “SPECIALIZED” TECHNOLOGIES that we use:

  • The Tek-Scan Bite Analysis System

The T-Scan is the newest – and one of the most amazing – technologies that we’ve added to our practice!

Traditionally, when dentists want to evaluate a person’s occlusion (how the teeth fit together when biting), they place a piece of inked ribbon – called Articulating Paper – between the upper and lower teeth to show where the teeth are hitting together.

There are many brands of Articulating Paper that a dentist can choose from. Some are thick. Some are thin. Some mark better. Some mark worse.

But all Articulating Papers fall way short in two very important ways:

  • They don’t show the intensity – or force – of the individual contacts
  • They don’t show the timing – or sequence – of when the marks occurred

Articulating Paper is “static” in its nature. A dentist can only see the sum total of the smudges left on the teeth from the paper.

The T-Scan is “dynamic” in its design. It allows a dentist – and his patient as well – to see all bite contacts as they occur in real time!

So, how does the T-Scan work?

tek-scan-bite-force-imageThe T-Scan electronically records an extremely high-speed movie (in hundreds of frames per second) that not only shows the order – or sequence – of when and where the teeth come together, but it also measures and records the force – or intensity – of each and every tooth contact at any given moment in time. The movie can then be replayed, paused, and analyzed.

For dental practices such as ours that are involved in the field of Occlusion (bite evaluation and treatment), the T-Scan has shown itself to be an invaluable tool for diagnosing bite problems and it has become a positive and important asset to help us obtain faster, better and more cost effective treatment results for patients with these problems.

OTHER “SPECIALIZED” TECHNOLOGIES:

…that we use in our office to diagnose and treat patients with head and neck pain:

  • Myotronics K-7 System
  • J-5 TENS Machine

We’ll be populating it with more detailed information about the preceding technologies in the near future.
